The kerb weight is the total mass of the vehicle minus <strong>passengers and goods only<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The kerb weight of a vehicle includes a 90% full tank of fuel, spare wheel and toolkit, whereas unladen weight does not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/vehicle-weights-explained\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DVSA website<\/a>, the following is true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"unladen-weight\">Unladen weight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The unladen weight of any vehicle is the weight of the vehicle when it\u2019s not carrying any passengers, goods or other items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It includes the body and all parts normally used with the vehicle or trailer when it\u2019s used on a road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It doesn\u2019t include the weight of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>fuel<\/li><li>batteries in an electric vehicle &#8211; unless it\u2019s a mobility scooter or powered wheelchair<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, according to the Ask Ford website, the following is stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"div-40px\"><\/div>\n\n<p>\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<!-- FVH Blog Display Ads -->\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9757226481979701\" data-ad-slot=\"1023228827\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kerb Mass<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Unladen weight (i.e. not carrying a load) of the vehicle, with fluids, 90% fuel, standard and any optional equipment, but&nbsp;<strong><u>excludes<\/u><\/strong>&nbsp;load\/cargo weight and weight of the driver. Higher series vehicles will be heavier due to higher spec.<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ford.co.uk\/owner\/resources-and-support\/ask-ford\/commercial-vehicles-and-fleet\/commercial-vehicles-general\/commercial-vehicle-weights-loads-definitions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ask Ford<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>So, it really depends on who you ask. The information by Ford, however, is <strong>incorrect <\/strong>and you shouldn&#8217;t be misled by statements or quotes, even from seemingly reputable sources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although similar, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.falkirkvanhire.com\/articles\/kerb-weight-vs-gross-weight\/\">kerb weight<\/a> and unladen weight are not the same. The differences between the two have legal implications if your van is found to be unwittingly over-loaded, for instance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weight Limits And You<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of what you drive, cars, vans, trucks, or even a lorry, your vehicle has a weight class of its own which must be adhered to.
